Noise Exposure and Noise Induced Hearing Loss Among the Traffic Police in Dhaka Metropolitan City

Background: Occupational noise is considered as a global problem with social and physiological impacts, causing noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). High levels of occupational in all regions the world. Road traffic produces high that can cause damage to police hearing. Hence, well-known outcome exposure at work. Objectives: The study aimed measure level different points determine occurrence rate severity among Dhaka Metropolitan City. Methods: This cross-sectional was conducted during 2017-2019 28 selected City under four zone (East, West, North, South) 100 who were working there met inclusion exclusion criteria. Noise measured from digital sound meter. Data collected by face interview pretested semi-structured questionnaire followed an otoscopic examination, tuning fork tests, baseline audiogram. To see association, Chi-square tests or Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r) performed. Results: revealed average East, South zones are respectively 125.6 dB, 112.9 121.3 119.4 dB. At every point, more than acceptable limit set Safety Health Administration (OSHA). In audiometry report police, 64% had sensorineural loss. Of them 85% mild, 9% moderate 6% severe Notch 4 kHz audiogram present right ear 46% respondents left 52% respondents. It observed significantly associated increasing age job duration. Conclusion: Traffic constant risk induced ambient this city very high. Regular assessment screening recommended for exposed noise. Bangladesh Med Res Counc Bull 2020; 46(3): 219-227
